RORY
STYLE
As many of you may already
know, I had written a song as a tribute to one of
my all-time favorite
guitarists, the great Irish bluesman, Rory Gallagher...
The song is called 'Rory
Style', and it is featured on our "Step Aside" CD. Rory
Gallagher has been a huge influence on me, musically, ever since my brother,
Bob, first turned me on to his music, back when I was 12 years old...
.
I got in touch with John
Ganjamie, through his amazing Rory Gallagher web site, "RoryON!!".(Be
sure to check out this web site!). Well,
John was kind enough to forward a copy of our "Step Aside" CD to
Rory's brother, Dónal, who, after listening to it, wrote me the
following letter: (
- Bill Capuano )
November
21, 2003
Hi
Guys,
Thank
you for forwarding your album on to me via John Ganjamie (RoryOn).
We had a postal strike here in London, thus the slow response back to you.
.
The
album is great, and matures with every listen. I love the variety
of material, and instrumentation, with the songs having lots of light and
shade. Needless to say, I am deeply touched by "Rory Style".
It is a fantastic tribute to my brother, and the guitar work is commendable,
as it encompasses so much of the subtle touches reminiscent of Rory's early
albums.
.
This
coming Monday, we shall be releasing a full length version of the "Meeting
With the G-Man", live 'bootleg', from '93, so when I get stock in, I will
send on some copies. Also, there will be a three-day Rory tribute
convention here in London, and I will feature your album at that event,
so the fans there are aware of your great record.
.
Many
thanks again for doing this tribute to Rory. I know he would be knocked-out
by its sentiment. Hope
our paths cross along the way.
.
Kind
regards,
Dónal

"John
Mayall has often been regarded as "The
Father of British Blues"
He's definitely
been a HUGE influence on the band members of Blue
Taxi!
The Bluesbreakers
are still featuring long-time band members,
drummer
Joe
Yuele, and guitarist
Buddy Whittington too!"
.
"We opened
for John Mayall once before, at the old Wilbert's, in 1997...
After we
had finished our set, and while I was putting my guitar away,
I noticed
a guy making his way through the crowd. He came up to me, and
while smiling,
said, "I really enjoyed the way you played, and your sound!"
He spoke
these words in a thick, British accent, and as I looked up,
imagine
my surprise to see John Mayall standing there!
When I
stood up to shake his hand, I almost fell over!"
.
"If you
watched the Blues Special on PBS, B.B. King said:
'British
Blues... John Mayall... He's the master of it...
He's
the FIRST person that brought it out!"'
